Since its establishment in 1930, this
traditional tavern has become an eating spot in
Cordoba’s traditional San Lorenzo quarter, which
is well-known even beyond the neighborhood.
Manuel Bordillo Romero, a vibrant man and
culinary master, transfered the tavern into one
of Cordoba’s favorite establishments.
The cusine of the house not only provides
traditional plain cooking, but is specialized in
preparing great codfish dishes. Therefore, the
house is nicknamed La Posada del Bacalao (Cod
Restaurant). Guests may choose from more than
thirty dishes being based on this delicious
fish.
Further popular dishes that are served in
Sociedad de Plateros are Rabo de Toro (Oxtail),
Salmorejo cordobés (cold tomato cream),
deep-fried eggplants and Flamenquín (pork roll
stuffed with Serrano ham). Naturally, all dishes
are prepared with fresh ingredients. To get a
foretaste, at www.gastronomiacordoba.com you can
see a couple of video clips showing the
preparation of the food.
Furthermore, the house is member of the so
called ruta del vino (wine route) and features a
wine cellar with famous wines of the
Montilla-Moriles certificate of origin.
Outstanding cultural activities, including wine
tasting and Flamenco performances, enrich the
event calendar of the city of Cordoba.
With a capacity for servicing up to 250 guests
at a time, Sociedad de Plateros is the right
place even for large groups. The Aguilar de Dios
hall accommodates up to 100 persons and is used
for conferences, exhibitions and other
occasions. During warm summer nights the
tavern’s patio is a popular place.
This popular tavern received several awards,
including the so called Medalla de Oro in 1985,
the „Cordobeses del año” award in 1993, the
Montilla-Moriles distinction and the best
Salmorejo cordobés accolade.
Lunch and dinner with Flamenco performance,
service in Spanish, English, Arabic and, after
notice in advance, German are further pluses.
So
get there, experience the true Cordoba beyond
the traces of travelers and don’t miss the great
cod to be served right here!
